Over three decades ago, we saw the release of the first ever Nike Air Max 1. inspired by the Pompidou Centre in Paris, Tinker Hatfield, who was originally an architect for Nike, came up with the idea of making the inner workings of the Air Max cushioning unit visible, resulting in the birth of, what is considered by many sneakerheads, the most iconic sneaker in history. Now, the Swoosh is paying tribute to the AM1’s original sketch with the brand new Nike Air Max 1 ‘Sketch’.

A direct translation from paper to real life, the ‘Sketch’ is painted in the OG ‘University Red’ palette with the colours roughly pencilled in for a prototype-like vibe. The Swoosh and tongue branding follow suit, along with design footnotes like “PATTERN SPLIT”; and “BIG WINDOW”. To round it all off, additional sketching makes its way to the outsole, which is finished off with a clear translucent rubber for a look that’s sure to turn heads.

Set to hit shelves on July 13th, if you’re going to cop any AM1 this year, make it the Nike Air Max 1 ‘Sketch’! inspired by the legendary sneaker’s roots, you don’t want to miss out! let us know if you’ll be adding a pair to your collection, and while you’re here, be sure to take a look at the full Nike sneaker range!
